I replied to one of your blogs many months ago. I told you about a conversation I had with Margie’s nephew who was than attending the U. S. Air Force Academy. It was just a week or two after the World Trade Center was attacked and destroyed. I told the nephew we should seal the borders and throw all of the foreign riffraff out. He disagreed. I was surprised that he disagreed as he was in training to be a defender of America. I gave him my analogy comparing what was happening in the world to a football game. A team may have by far the best defense of all of the other teams and with that in their favor they will most likely make the play offs and win the super bowl but along they way they will take some hits. Their opponents will score against them. In football you are only playing for points. In terrorism you are playing for human lives. Why are we Americans even playing this game? We do not have to be doing this. What will it take before we wise up?

This kind of stupidity takes me back to 1968 when motorcyclists like myself were being bombarded with new regulations. Motorcycles up to than did not require motor vehicle inspections as did cars, but now they did and the bureaucrats were having a field day. Ok, proper head and tail lights and rear view mirrors made sense but SEAT BELTS? It’s a good thing that didn’t become law but what dimwit would even imagine it?

Automation has always been good for some people and bad for others. In my business it has increased production and improved the consistency and the quality of machined parts. This kind of automation, although not according to the workers who have been replaced by it, has had a positive effect for the rest of the population. Some types of automation however can, at least in my opinion, have a negative effect. From the moment that I first saw an automated cashier in a Home Depot store I thought of the type of jobs that could be eliminated. For many it would be their first job and their entry into the working world and for others with certain disabilities the only kind of work they can do. Automation can be a good thing or a bad thing. Smart Meters, which are I am sure a product of automation, probably will be made to work without scaring away the birds. It may just be a matter of changing their broadcast frequency, but if they are here to stay the jobs they eliminate won’t be here to stay.

My solution for those who rape has something to do with a locked cage and an oversexed 500 hundred pound gorilla on public T.V. but it would never work. The A.C.L.U. would feel sorry for the rapist and the animal rights people would feel sorry for the gorilla.

I had a second thought. Mileage traveled in a vehicle that gets 10 miles to a gallon as compared to one that gets 35 miles per gallon. There seems to be no reward here for driving a more efficient vehicle. A heavier car causes more wear and tear to our roads than a lighter car. This new tax does nothing for the greenies or the infrastructure. It’s just a new and arbitrary way to grab money.

I thought that’s what the tax on gasoline was supposed to do. When I got to Rockaway this morning Mehesh greeted me with apologies foe having to let you go. He said he hoped it was only temporary. He wants you back but he needs to regain his balance first if he can. He is also concerned about the vice of Obama care tightening on his business. He is in sort of a panic mode trying to find the money to keep things going. If his business can survive he may be able to pick up the work from the packagers that that don,t survive. Wish him luck.

I am very sorry to hear this news. Nobody saw the extortion bomb coming. It hasn’t been long but I have already seen a subtle change in the type of work they have been giving me. No big new jobs just some repairs and modifications to existing equipment. Fortunately for me I hung onto my day job and he has plenty of work for me. I have job security there because I am the only one there with knowledge of trigonometry and geometry and there are some machines there that I am well versed in setting up and running. I can only say for you that the people you were working with all had good things to say about you. I will miss seeing you there in the mornings but I am glad there is still Tuesday night band.
