Happy Veterans Day, 2012

Happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and the unsung heroes of the U.S. Merchant Marine.

The current administration thinks America can survive with a reduced military that has fewer weapons at its disposal.  He thinks America can “repurpose” her armed forces to more peaceful duties that will win friends and influence allies.  He would have us turn our military into the Peace Corps.  In fact, some of our finest officers are sent to graduate level courses now for that very purpose.

We send our armed forces into harm’s way to fight, not to build Habitat for Humanity homes.  That’s a harsh reality, but that’s the way it is.    America is, or was, the last stronghold for freedom on the planet.  Now that that’s going away, Obama will try to turn the military’s budget to social causes, as Europe has done.  Soon, there will be nothing to stand in tyranny’s way.

If only our citizens could have been as brave as our soldiers.  Those citizens have become a corrupt and contemptible lot, however, who value freebies instead of freedom.  They are not worth dying for.

All the same, we thank the men and women of the U.S. Military for standing up for freedom.  Today is the day to salute those who came home again, whether they’ve just returned from Afghanistan, parade with the Vietnam Veterans, are a Korean War veteran dandling a great-grandchild on their knee, have already passed away, or are struggling with a permanent injury.

We who love freedom salute you and apologize for those who do not.
