Fighting for the American Flag

In battles of olde, when soldiers were still on foot and horseback, the main object was to capture the enemy’s flag.  Protecting your flag was paramount, and the colors were usually at the center of the battle, neither in danger on the front nor seen in retreat at the rWhen you captured the flag, the battle was pretty much over and you could proclaim victory.  Soviet Union Premier Nikita Kruschev, in the early 1960s, predicted that Americans would tear down their own flag.

A South Carolina teacher at Chapin High School was suspended after allegedly stomping on the American flag in front of his honors English class. He reportedly declared the flag was “only a piece of cloth” and didn’t “mean anything.”

At least one parent calls the teacher’s actions disrespectful and unpatriotic, according to the AP and WIS-TV, via The Blaze. Officials hope to have a permanent replacement for the teacher for the remainder of the year while an investigation is carried out.

One parent, Michael Copeland, says he heard his teenager talking about what her English teacher did with the American flag in the classroom and pressed to get the whole story.

“He drew a couple of symbols, like one of them was a cross, and he said, ‘What does this represent,’ and everybody said, ‘Christianity,’” he told WIS-TV.

“Then he proceeds to take down the American flag, and said, ‘This is a symbol, but it’s only a piece of cloth. It doesn’t mean anything,’ and then he throws it down on the floor and then stomps on it, repeatedly,” he added. “I asked what was he trying to get, the point across?” And she said, ‘I don’t know,’ and he said, his explanation was there would be no consequences, it’s just a piece of cloth that doesn’t mean anything.”

Desecration and disrespect for the American flag has long been part of Communism’s indoctrination of American students.  Far from believing that a flag has any meaning, they’re perfectly aware that the flag is a symbol of unity for the people of any country, not just America.  Destroy the flag, and you destroy that people’s feeling of national identity.

Some would claim that that’s a fascist notion.  My father, an old-style Conservative, used to warn about becoming too attached to a piece of cloth.  Swearing allegiance to it, he felt a people could conceivably and unwittingly bind themselves to a tyrant or an idiot.  The flag was meaningless unless you also believed in freedom and liberty.

Nihilist educators hope to inculcate students with a notion of disaffection, indifference, and doubt about being American.  They’re not above using psychological warfare to undermine our country.  They exaggerate our flaws as a country and downplay our achievements.  As for individual liberty, that “selfish” character impediment to collectivism, like the American flag, it should be ground into dust for the sake of the collective.

Stomping on the American flag in front of a high school class, using the steel heel of tyranny, is a step in that direction.
