Black, White, or Somewhere in Between

In the on-going saga of the Boston Marathon, there’s been much speculation about the color of the skin of the suspects, who were captured on one of Lord & Taylor’s security cameras.  Most media reported, without publishing the photos, that they were “brown.”  CBS reported that they were “white.”

The intrepid New York Post went ahead and published the photos of the alleged bombers: they’re brown and appear to be of Middle Eastern descent.  What’s more, the FBI and the State Department, in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian embassy have been playing ball with the Saudi Arabian student here in the States on a student VISA.  He’s going to be deported.  No, wait!  He’s staying!  No, wait!  He’s going – he wants to go home.  No, he’s staying!  No, he belongs to an important Saudi family; he’s going.  No, wait!  He’s a material witness and possible suspect in the bombing – he’s staying.

They’ve also checked out the marathon hero.  However, it’s the brown-skinned guy who was first wearing, and then was missing, the backpack identified as carrying the bomb.  It’s pretty damning evidence, even though they haven’t caught him, much less arrested him, arraigned him and put him on trial, along with his cohort.

Now that we sort of know who the suspects are, the Liberals have quickly switched back to the theme of gun control legislation, which the Senate has rejected.  There’s been outrage from Gabby Gifford, Sandy Hook parents, and of course, Obama.  He threw a royal temper tantrum when he learned about the bill’s fate.

“The American people want this (gun control legislation)!” he cried.

No, they don’t.  They want to know who set off the Boston Marathon Bomb.  Now that it looks as if it may have been Arab/Islamic/Muslim terrorists, the Media has turned away from the story.  Old news.  “Only” three people died, compared to the 26 in Newtown, Conn.  They’re not interested in why the government is in a hurry to ship off the Saudi Arabian student.  They’re not interested in why no one was concerned about that bag sitting in front of the guard rail at the finish line.

But they are interested in the suspects’ skin color.  Now that papers can publish color photos and broadcasting companies have websites, nothing is black or white anymore.  You can better distinguish features more accurately.  Nor do the professional photographers have the monopoly on photos, choosing what you can see.  Today, everyone has a camera.  Stores have video cameras.  Tourists have video cameras.  Bloggers have video cameras.

Now you can – perish the Progressive thought – “discriminate.”
