Memorial Day 2013

This past weekend, as I always do before the Totowa Memorial Day parade, I stopped by the cemetery to place flowers on my father’s and grandparents’ graves.    As has happened in the past, a flag was missing from my father’s gravesite, but not Grandpa’s (thanks, LR!!).

The parade ends at the American Legion Post, which is responsible for the flag-planting, so I asked them for two flags, one for his official gravesite and the other for where he’s really buried (although with all the clover that covers his half-Irish body, I can’t help wondering if that is where he’s buried).  They said sometimes they just can’t find the military markers because they’re not tended.  My father’s grave was tended, but we can forgive them the mistake; he’s not buried where he’s supposed to be, anyway.

This cemetery is a bury-them-and-forget-it cemetery.  The graves are marked with flat stones.  After 15 years or so, the grass eventually covers over the marker completely.  My mother has carefully tended her parents’ and husbands’ graves so that doesn’t happen.  She has a set of tools in a green case called “The Grave Tools” for cutting away the grass and even pulling out weeds (trying to get the weeds out of Grandma and Grandpa’s grave proved quite a chore.  I told Mom this had to be Grandpa’s site because the weeds were so tough.  The weed came out with an alarmingly long root).

After Mom and I were finished (this was on Monday, the day after the Totowa parade), I walked around our section of the cemetery to uncover some of the markers.  Some dated as far back as 1957.   After the first or, if they’re lucky, the second generation, the concern for the grave fades.  People move away; generations lose interest; families die out and the grass grows over their memorials so that the flag planters can’t even find the veterans anymore.

The Nephew has moved out to California; he certainly won’t return to visit the site of a grandfather who died years before he was born.  There are no other children.  The grass has grown deeper as the marker sinks and proves with every year that passes, harder and harder to trim.  This year, I had to use a small garden shovel to do the job, which Mom is no longer able to do.

Assuming I live another 35 years, there will come a day when I will not be up to the task, either.  By that time, I suppose it won’t matter, for my father or the other veterans buried in the cemetery.  Future flag-planters won’t even know where to put them, and they’ll be forgotten.

That seems kind of a shame.  For the rest of us, the flat stones are fine.  But the for the men who stormed the Normandy Beach or  battled malaria and snipers from Tarawa to Guadalcanal, faced the horrors of war on the sands of Iwo Jima, risked their lives on bomber flights over Germany, marched through the desert of Libya, or scaled their way up through the mountains of Italy, as my father had, fading away just doesn’t seem to do them justice.

What of the other soldiers who might be buried there?  The cemetery is old enough for World War I doughboys facing the nightmare of the first chemical warfare and new enough to have as its tenants casualties and veterans of the Korean and Vietnam war; Vietnam, with its snake-filled rivers and treacherous swamps, as well as a treacherous Media back home undermining them.

All of them either sacrificed their lives, or gave up a portion of their lives, or came home wounded.  Don’t they deserve a little better memorial than to be swept under the grass?  At least those who are cremated have a permanent marker.

To the soldiers, sailors, merchant marines and other heroes buried under the grass at Laurel Grove:  you are not forgotten.

Readers, forgive the belated post.  Your faithful blogger was felled this week by a combined case of strep throat and inner ear infection.  Thank God for penicillin!

Enough to Make You Seasick

To the average, untutored, non-Garden State eye, Asbury Park, N.J., looks like it was devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  Not exactly.  Oh, Sandy paid a visit there, but there wasn’t much for her to do that hadn’t already been done by 40 years’ worth of criminal activity and vandalism.

Gov. Christie’s “boyfriend” (Obama) is back and they visited the boardwalk at Point Pleasant Beach (they might have visited Asbury Park’s boardwalk, only it was destroyed through vandalism and neglect years ago).  Obama also spoke at the convention center in Asbury Park, although no one really holds conventions there anymore, either.  Asbury Park, in short, is the most dangerous stretch of beach north of Miami.

Glenn Beck’s Blaze TV (which is now available on Optimum Channel 157, northern New Jerseyans!) showed stills and videos of Christie and Obama romping on the beach together, just like any other couple out for a stroll on the beach, arm in arm.  They shared either a corn dog or an ice cream cone on the Point Pleasant boardwalk, eating merrily away at it as they gazed into one another’s eyes, tongues discreetly touching and then pulling away.  You have to see it to believe it.

Yuck!!  It’s enough to make you seaside sick.

Has Gov. Christie, in his apparent ambitions either for a second run at the governorship or at the presidency in 2016 no sense of dignity, no sense of shame?  Those of you who are not from New Jersey need to understand the significance of the town Obama selected to speak in – Asbury Park.

Asbury Park was established as a residential resort town in 1871 New York brush manufacturer James A. Bradley.  The city was named for Francis Asbury, the first American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States.  Asbury Park was the answer to New York City’s Coney Island, almost exactly due north of Asbury Park.

Bradley was active in the development of much of the city’s infrastructure, and despite his preference for gas light, he allowed the Atlantic Coast Electric Company to offer electric service. Along the waterfront Bradley installed a boardwalk, an orchestra pavilion, public changing rooms and a pier at the south end of the boardwalk.  Such success attracted other businessmen. In 1888, Ernest Schnitzler built the Palace Merry-Go-Round on the southwest corner of Lake Avenue and Kingsley Street, the cornerstone of what would become the Palace Amusements complex; other attraction followed.  During these early decades in Asbury Park, a number of grand hotels were built, including the Plaza Hotel.

More than 600,000 people a year vacationed in Asbury Park during the summer season in the early years, riding the New York and Long Branch Railroad from New York and from Philadelphia to enjoy the mile-and-a-quarter stretch of oceanfront Asbury Park.

The country by the sea destination experienced several key periods of popularity. The first notable era was the 1890s, marked by a housing growth, examples of which can still be found today in a full range of Victorian architecture. Coinciding with the nationwide trend in retail shopping, Asbury Park’s downtown flourished during this period and well into the 20th century.

The 1920s saw a dramatic change in the boardwalk with the construction of the Paramount Theater and Convention Hall complex, the Casino Arena and Carousel House, and two handsome red-brick pavilions. Beaux Arts architect Warren Whitney of New York was the designer. He had also been hired to design the imposing Berkeley-Carteret Hotel positioned diagonally across from the theater and hall. At the same time, Asbury Park launched a first-class education and athletic program with the construction of a state-of-the-art high school overlooking Deal Lake.

On Sept. 8, 1934, the wreck of the cruise ship SS Morro Castle, which caught on fire and burned, beached itself near the city just yards away from the Asbury Park Convention Hall; the city capitalized on the event, turning the wreck into a tourist attraction.

In 1935, the newly-founded Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) called Asbury Park’s Mayor Clarence F. Hetrick to testify about $6,000,000 in “beach improvement bonds” that had gone into default. At the same time, the SEC also inquired about rental rates on the beach front and why the mayor reduced the lease of a bathhouse from $85,000 to $40,000, among many other discrepancies that could have offset debt.  The interests of Asbury Park’s bond investors led State Sen. Frank Durand (Monmouth County) to add a last-minute “Beach Commission” amendment to a municipal debt bill in the New Jersey legislature.

When the bill became law, it ceded control of the Asbury Park beach to Gov. Harold Hoffman and a governor’s commission. The city of Asbury Park sued to restore control of the beach to the municipal council, but the state’s Supreme Court upheld the validity of the law in 1937.

When Durand pressed New Jersey’s legislature to extend the state’s control of Asbury Park’s beach in 1938, the lower house staged a walk out and the Senate soon adjourned. The disruption notably prevented a vote for funding New Jersey’s participation in the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. In December 1938, the court returned control of the beach to the municipal council provided that a bond repayment agreement was created; Asbury Park was the only beach in New Jersey affected by the Beach Commission law.

In the decades that followed the war, surrounding farm communities gave way to tracts of suburban houses, encouraging the city’s middle-class blacks as well as whites to move into newer houses with spacious yards. With the opening of the Garden State Parkway, Asbury Park saw the travel market change as fewer vacationers took trains to the seashore. After the Monmouth Mall opened 10 miles away in Eatontown in 1960, Asbury Park’s downtown became less of an attraction to shoppers.  Office parks built outside the city resulted in the relocation of lawyers, accountants, doctors, dentists, and other professionals. The opening of Six Flags Great Aventura, a combination theme park and drive-through safari located on a lake in Jackson Township – and close to a New Jersey Turnpike exit — proved to be stiff competition for a mile-long stretch of aging boardwalk amusements and buildings along Springwood Avenue, one of three main east-west corridors into Asbury Park and the central shopping and entertainment district for those living in the city’s southwest quadrant.  Many of those city blocks have yet to be redeveloped into the 21st century.  The vacant streets of Asbury Park were a common sight in the 1980s and 1990s.  We were travelling to Seaside Heights one summer day when we were teens and my mother gave us a glimpse of “why we didn’t go to Asbury Park.”  We watched as hoodlums vandalized the abandoned convention hall.

Although it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, Palace Amusements was closed and was demolished in 2004 despite attempts to save it. The complex had featured the famous face of “Tillie” (a cartoon face of the owner of Steeplechase Park in Coney Island), a symbol of the Jersey Shore.  In 1990, the famous carousel at the Casino Pier was sold to Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where it continues to operate.

Obama didn’t select Asbury Park for hurricane damage; he selected it for yet another urban renewal project.  The fact that there are no longer any attractions in Asbury Park tells the long tale of man-made devastation.  Suburbanites with young children, not wanting to make the nearly four-hour trek to the Wildwoods at the far southern end of New Jersey, chose Seaside Heights as the trip-to-the-beach location.

Those who could afford to do so rented cottages on fashionable Long Beach Island, or LBI, as the hoi polloi of New Jersey like to call it.  More resorts popped along the shore, varying according to tastes, the most famous of which was Atlantic City.  When Atlantic went the way of Asbury Park, it was redeveloped as high-class casino resort.  Brigantine, Stone Harbor, Ocean Grove and the like are all residential/seasonal locales.  The next stop for vacationers looking for amusement are the Wildwoods (North Wildwood, Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest) with its kitschy, 1950’s style motels giving way to condos owned by investors in Philadelphia.

The people of America should not be fooled by our popular governor’s romantic romp in the sand with Obama.  They should be disgusted by this performance.  Obama stated it would take a long time to restore the shore.  It took a long time for Asbury Park to reach that state of decline and had a lot of help from the very residents looking for a hand-out.

Meanwhile, the Jersey Shore’s real money-maker, Seaside Heights, languishes while Obama and Christie walk practically hand-in-hand eating corndogs and planning to throw money away on rebuilding a sandcastle town that was never seriously impacted by Hurricane Sandy as its sister town, Seaside Heights was.  You can hear the ka-ching as the burly Christie slams the hammer down and rings the bell at the top for his boyfriend, Obama.  In exchange, Obama will deliver the Asbury Park vote.

But perhaps they shouldn’t be too hasty.  According to Direct Risk Management Director Dr. Simon Atkins, there is 81 percent probability that a rare North Atlantic tsunami will strike the North American coast somewhere north of Virginia and south of eastern Canadian Maritime Provinces.  The warning began on May 20th and will expire on June 5th.

The best-case scenario predicts an average of 2 to 4 feet above normal water level for northern U.S.  East Coast (non-specified for other regions outside of Primary Zone); potential damage in the tens of millions.

The median-case scenario forecasts an average of 10 feet above normal water level into US East Coast; potential damage of more than $100 billion.

The worst-case scenario predicts an average of 40 feet above normal water level into US East Coast; potential damage of more than $2 trillion and a potential U.S. (and other regional) economic collapse.

The Leading Indicators according to Atkins, for an upgrade a 62 percent probability on May 22 to an 81 percent probably today include:

  • 7.4 Richter Scale earthquake south of Fiji near Tonga on 5/23/13; then 8.2 Richter Scale earthquake in Eastern Russia (5/24/13)
  •  Magnetic alignment down the northern half of the U.S. East Coast, with heavy precipitation from NY State to the Canadian Maritimes, in actuality an ‘attracting’ energy
  • Large market losses, especially the Nikkei Index (Japan) — shows where main electromagnetic energy is “pulsing” from, especially with 8.2 earthquake following to the north (in the theory that all energy is connected)
  • Lunar eclipse / full moon (which puts additional pressure on oceans)
  • Other unusual chaotic events (Washington State bridge collapse likely due to tectonic plate movement, and not engineering; two incidents of passenger aircraft engine fires due to pulses of solar electromagnetic energy).

This is the first time Advanced Forecasting Corporation has ever issued a Tsunami Watch.

Is it a hoax?  Probably.  Just like the boardwalk baseball toss is a hoax.  Obama got taken in by it and Christie had to come to his rescue to win the teddy bear.  There is a tsunami coming (especially if Christie does a cannonball in a local motel pool), but it’s a voter tsunami.  Like Atkins’ prediction, it’s hard to say when it will hit.  The arc might have to be extended outward a decade or so.  But like Asbury Park, the wipe-out won’t come from the sea, but from inland.

After it’s all over, and Christie is either re-elected governor or elected President, Obama and Christie might honeymoon in Atlantic City.  Hit the casinos, play a little blackjack.  Christie can show Obama “The Quarter” at the Trop (that’s the Tropicana for those of you who’ve never been to A.C.), dine at Cuba Libre, and take photos of themselves in front of the statue of Lenin.

The War That Will Never End

Obama announced (once again) that the War on Terror is over.  He has spoken.  Only someone forgot to tell the terrorists that it’s over.  Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron said he wasn’t “sure” it was an act of terror.  Perhaps, like Obama, he doesn’t watch the news.  Here’s what Adebolajo told a videographer after he murdered Drummer Rigby in Woolwich, England (and let’s put it in large type so Obama and the Prime Minister can’t miss it:

“You people will never be safe!  I shall strike terror into the hearts of the disbelievers.  Cut off their heads!”

(the second quote is from the Koran 8:12)

Get the message, Mr. Prime Minister?  He used the “T” word.  Apparently he didn’t get the White House/AP style memo banning the word “terror” from all future news reports.  The murderers were dripping with Drummer Rigby’s blood.  So was the machete Adebolajo was wielding.

There’s a reason why the sword is on the national flag of Saudi Arabia.   They believe that’s just about the only way to spread the message of Allah.  Through the sword, through taxation (attention IRS), and through forced conversion.  Now, not all Muslims, admittedly, are comfortable with this radical way of gaining converts.  Murdering people tends to make people think Islam is a violent religion, which doesn’t make for good public relations.  Sooner or later, they just might fight back.  There’s got to be an easier way.

Infidels are conveniently corrupt, especially political infidels. The Socialist/Communist politicians already share the same belief in “social justice” as the Muslims.  Conservative politicians are finding themselves more and more in the minority as they refuse to support gay marriage, climate change and a host of other Progressive causes that divide the populace, especially the young from the old.

The young outnumber the old.  That’s just an historical fact.  Get them hooked on drugs and alcohol, and numb their brains with loud music that makes it impossible for them to listen to wisdom and you’ve got your converts.    Drugs, alcohol, adultery, homosexuality and dancing are all banned by Islam.  But never mind that, right now; they’ll explain all that later.

This war will never end because it’s not like conventional war.  It’s not about land.  It’s not about trade (we have plenty of our own oil, if only Obama would permit it).  It’s not about piracy or military coups.  All those things have played a part in the Middle East wars.

In the end, it’s about religion.  It’s about a religion that thinks it’s the only true religion.  All religions will tell you that.  Not every religion will cut off your head if you disagree with their creed or decide you’d like to try some other religion or stone you if you break one of the laws.

Spanish Christians entering the New World did forcibly convert the native peoples.  Some fought back and died at the hands of a better armed and trained military.  But then, the tribes were practicing some pretty hideous rituals like human sacrifice, slavery, and genital mutilation.  Did the Liberal Progressives forget to tell you that in history class?  It wasn’t all just about idol worship.

Then there were the Salem Witch Trials.  Yes, the Puritans.  They settled first in Connecticut and then moved to the cities of Elizabeth and Newark in New Jersey.  The Puritans were strictly faithful, just like the Muslims.  But as new immigrants flooded Newark, the Puritans (even the Puritans didn’t like the Puritans at times) moved up into the highlands of northern New Jersey.  They still don’t like strangers.  That swatch of New Jersey that you see on the political maps of the state that belong to Congressman Scott Garrett (one of the most Conservative representatives in Congress).  Agenda 21 is trying to change that map but the locals are fighting back, although they’ll probably have no better luck than the Carib Indians of Columbus’ time.

The thing is, you just don’t see many Christians setting off bombs at marathons, sailing planes into skyscrapers, or beheading soldiers in the streets.  The Muslims who do such things are termed “Radicals.”  The only difference between Radical Muslims and the so-called “Moderate” Muslims are their methods.

To paraphrase the executive character from the original Die Hard movie, “You use a machete; I use a fountain pen.  What’s the difference?”

What’s bothersome about Islam isn’t so much the terrorist attacks – well they are pretty troublesome, come to think of it.  What gives one pause is the Muslim culture in general.  The way they treat women and little girls, for instance.  The women must wear shrouds.  The woman aren’t allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia and in many countries, the little girls aren’t allowed to go to school.  Families marry off their daughters as young as nine years old.  Beatings and honor killings are common, even here in the United States.  Women aren’t allowed to vote and can’t go out in public unless accompanied by a male family member.

If Feminists think they’re going to “change” Muslim men, they should visit a genuine Muslim country.  In a Muslim country, the husband gets the children in the case of a divorce.  Women aren’t allowed to travel without their husband’s permission and in Iran, women aren’t supposed to use the main roads even to walk to the store; they must use back alleys.

Islam is probably the most intolerant religion on the face of the Earth.  They don’t exactly make a secret of it.  They will suffer other religions, but they must pay an onerous tax for the privilege and they cannot pray in public nor have houses of worship.  In Egypt, Christian churches are being bombed and burned every day.  You might be more outraged if the Mainstream Media showed those images instead of videos of Stone Age thugs burning the American flag to make sure we know how much we’re hated over there in the Middle East.

For the Muslims, this is a fight to the death.  The Jews and the Hindus are up for the fight.  But the Christianized West?  Not so much.  They face two obstacles here in America:   the First Amendment and the Seventh commandment that says, Thou Shalt Not Kill.  In addition to that, there are the teachings of Jesus Christ, who said we should love our neighbors and our enemies as we love ourselves.  How are you going to argue with a guy who allowed himself to be nailed to the cross for everything the rest of us have and will do wrong?

So, we turn the other cheek – and the Muslims slash it.  Do we have the courage to remain loyal to Him?  Only one person went to the aid of Drummer Rigby before the police finally came and shot the terrorists.  Great Britain had tried taking guns away from law enforcement but it didn’t work out too well.  The London Bobbies are armed once again.

Not that it did Drummer Rigby much good.  If someone could have stopped them before he was killed, it would have been much better.  However, in defense of the bystanders, the terrorists ran Rigby over with a car before they butchered him.  Still, you’d think enough bystanders would have found some sort of weapons (sticks, stones, etc.) and prevented these murderers from defiling Rigby’s body, at least.

Have we forgotten the Black Hawk Down soldiers whose bodies were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu?  The Marines blown up in their barracks in Lebanon in the 1980s?  The soldiers who’ve given their lives to keep Iraq from falling into the hands of the Iranian ayatollah and those who’ve died in Afghanistan to clear the way for China to mine rare earth minerals (for electronic gadgets).  This Memorial Day weekend we should give thought to these modern-day martyrs.

Some wonder how much longer we will be observing Memorial Day?  As long as there are fanatical Muslims and moderate Muslims who support them through funds or engage in their own political jihad, and as long as there are Americans brave enough to call them “Islamic terrorists,” deny the Muslims their world caliphate, and refuse to submit (that’s what “Islam” means – to submit or surrender), as long as there is a War on Islamic Terror, there will be a Memorial Day.

The March of the Muslims

In the aftermath of the terrorist murder of a soldier in London by two Islamic terrorists, one of whom vowed, “You people will never be safe!” and “I shall strike terror into the hearts of the disbelievers.  Cut off their heads!” (the second quote is from the Koran 8:12), our Tea Party listened last night to guest speaker Ryan Mauro discuss the incremental incursion of Islam in our country.

Mauro is a national security analyst and a fellow with the Clarion Project, on whose website he wrote the following article about a mega-mosque being built by Turkey in Lanham, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C.  Lanham is also the site of the Sri Siva Vishnu temple as well as the Murugan Temple of North America, the first temple in the United States dedicated to the Hindu deity Murugan (the Hindu god of war and victory).

This is in addition to three Christian churches.  Lanham is a small town with a population of 10,000 people on 3.6 square miles.  The mega-mosque, which will be the largest mosque in the Western hemisphere, will take up 15 acres in the town.  How comfortable is Washington with this new neighbor.  Well, according to Mauro, Maryland Secretary of State John McDonough attended the ceremonies.

That was why the president of Turkey was here, something the press never bothered to tell us.  That’s why it was so convenient for Erdogan to visit Obama.  Lanham is the last stop on D.C.’s Orange Line.  Here’s Mauro’s article from the Clarion Project website:

The Islamist government of Turkey is building a 15-acre, $100 million mega-mosque in Lanham, Maryland. Prime Minister Erdogan visited the site on May 15 in a ceremony that was attended by the leaders of two groups linked to the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.  The state of Maryland was officially represented at the event by its Secretary of State John McDonough.

The event was also attended by the leaders of two U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entities.

The mega-mosque is called the Turkish American Culture and Civilization Center and, according to the Muslim Link:  it “will likely become the largest and most striking examples of Islamic architecture in the western hemisphere” when it is finished in 2014.  The Muslim Link explicitly says it is “a project of the government of Turkey.”

On May 15, Prime Minister Erdogan spoke to hundreds of people at the construction site and said he’d come back for the opening ceremony next year. He warned the audience that there are groups promoting “Islamophobia,” branding potential critics as paranoid bigots.  Erdogan recently said that “Islamophobia” and Zionism are equivalent to fascism and anti-Semitism, saying they are a “crime against humanity.”

On this trip to the U.S., Erdogan brought the father of one of the Islamists killed while on a Turkish flotilla which was trying to break Israel’s weapons blockade on Gaza. Gaza is controlled by Hamas, which is a designated terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department. Erdogan reportedly wanted to him to meet President Obama. (In the end, the father met with Secretary of State John Kerry.)

The leaders of two U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entities in attendance included Naeem Baig, is the president of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA). A 1991 U.S. Muslim Brotherhood memo lists ICNA as one of “our organizations and the organizations of our friends.” The memo says its “work in America is ‘a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within.’” The memo even refers to meetings with ICNA where there was talk about a merger.

ICNA is also linked to the Pakistani Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami and its conferences feature radical speakers.  A former ICNA president was recently indicted for horrific war crimes committed during Bangladesh’s 1971 succession from Pakistan – the torture and murder or 18 political opponents.

The second official from a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity that attended the event was Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). ISNA and several of its components are listed as U.S. Muslim Brotherhood fronts in the same 1991 Brotherhood memo. ISNA was also an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case, dubbed the largest Islamic terror-funding trial in the history of the U.S. Federal prosecutors in the case also listed ISNA as a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity.

The Turkish government has been quietly spreading its influence in the U.S., but Erdogan’s public involvement in the building of this center takes Turkey’s “outreach” in America out of the realm of the subtle.

The Clarion Project recently reported on the growing ties between the Turkish government and Native American tribes. With Congress’ help, thousands of Turkish contractors and their families may be flooding into America’s heartland and settling in semi-autonomous zones of the Native Americans, well out of the reach of American authorities.

The Clarion Project also reported on the Turkish Fethullah Gulen school network in America, which is currently under FBI investigation. The network is the largest charter school network in America.  It is the same network that has been a critical component in Turkey’s on-going transformation from a secular democracy into an Islamic state.

Erdogan and his Islamist government calls Hamas a “resistance” group, despite the fact that Hamas specifically targets Israeli civilians with suicide bombings and rocket attacks. Not surprisingly, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is a big admirer of Erdogan’s.

Since taking office in 2003, Erdogan has been implementing his Islamist agenda, slowly but steadily changing Turkey from a secular democracy to an Islamist state;  college admissions have been changed to favor religious students;  the military has been gutted of its secular generals (with one in five generals currently in prison on dubious charges); and women have been routed out of top government jobs.  Honor killings in Turkey increased 1,400 percent between 2002 and 2009. Persecution of artists and journalists has become commonplace as opponents are charged with “crimes” like “denigrating Islam” and “denigrating the state.”

According to the Muslim Link, the new center will have five buildings, including a mosque “constructed using sixteenth century Ottoman architecture that can hold 750 worshipers.”

The Turkish American Culture and Civilization Center will be the largest Islamic site in the Western Hemisphere. The fact that it is being built by the government of Turkey represents the next step in Erdogan’s desire to increase the Islamist influence in America.

According to the London Daily Mail Online, the victim of yesterday’s terrorist murder in the London suburb of Woolwich was 25 year-old Lee Rigby.  Rigby came from Crumpsall, Manchester and served as a drummer with the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, attached to the Regimental Recruiting Team in London.

Sergeant Barry Ward said he was “a loving father” to his two-year-old son Jack, and had “a very bubbly character.”

A shocked and tearful neighbour outside the family home, a council house on the Langley estate in Middleton, Greater Manchester said:  “He had always wanted to be in the army since he was knee high.”

Drummer Rigby, who joined the Army in 2006, had served in Helmand province, Afghanistan, where he was a member of the Fire Support Group in Patrol Base Woqab.

A life-long Manchester United fan, he had also stood outside the Royal Palaces as part of his battalion’s public duties commitment.

Lieutenant Colonel Jim Taylor, Commanding Officer Second Fusiliers, said Drummer Rigby was a ‘real character’.

He said: ‘Larger than life, he was at the heart of our Corps of Drums.  An experienced and talented side drummer and machine gunner, he was a true warrior and served with distinction in Afghanistan, Germany and Cyprus.   His ability, talent and personality made him a natural choice to work in the recruiting group. He will be sorely missed by everyone in the Second Fusiliers.”

As for his murderers, showing off their blood-soaked hands to nearby video journalists and a tourist bus, The Daily Mail says, “one of the men, believed to be Michael Adebolajo, is believed to have been arrested after he went to Somalia to join banned Islamist group al Ahabaab.

“Eyewitness Jamie France, 29, said that his mother had seen Adebolajo preaching as recently as last week.

“He said: ‘She said she’d seen him last week preaching in Woolwich town centre. She said she remembers him because he’d been really angry and was saying all this political stuff.’

“Scotland Yard announced that another 1,200 police officers were being put onto the streets and several houses were raided as part of the investigation.  Adebolajo is said to have joined the banned Islamist organisation Al Muhajiroun, which promotes Sharia law, and other controversial groups banned under the Terrorism Act.  Insiders said he disappeared two years ago.

“He is said to have been well-known on the Islamic extremist scene in Britain and may have been stopped or arrested on his way to join the militant Islamist group Al Shabaab in Somalia in the past year.

“Adebolajo, 28, was born in Lambeth, south London, in 1985 to a Christian family of Nigerian descent.  At the age of 15 or 16 he started getting involved in Islam and started to speak about Jihadi ideas.

“He joined several extremist groups – including Al Muhajiroun – that were banned in Britain and in 2003 converted to Islam, calling himself Mujaheed while at Marshalls Park School.

Fearing he had become radicalised, his parents moved him away from Romford to a village in Lincolnshire.

“He then went to university in Greenwich, living in Eltham while he was a student.  A former friend told the Evening Standard that he was a Christian.

“The friend said: ‘He started getting involved with Islam aged about 15 or 16, and that is why his parents moved him away out of the area. It is utterly shocking to see what he has done. It’s unbelievable.’

“The security services, including MI5, were aware of him and his accomplice, who has not been named but is believed to be from Harold Hill, close to Romford. However, the two suspects are not thought to have links to terror groups based in Nigeria, such as the jihadist militant organisation Boko Haram.

“British Prime Minister Cameron said: ‘We will defeat violent extremism by standing together, by backing our police and security services and above all by challenging the poisonous narrative of extremism on which this violence feeds.

“‘As is the normal practice in these sorts of cases, the Independent Police Complaints Commission will be able to review the actions of the police, and the Intelligence and Security Committee will be able to do the same for the wider agencies,’ he said.  ‘But nothing should be done to get in the way of their absolutely vital work.’

“Speaking about the courageous actions of Ingrid Loyau-Kennett who spoke to the killers after the attack he added: ‘When told by the attacker he wanted to start a war in London she replied, ‘You are going to lose. It’s only you versus many.’ She speaks for us all.’

Mauro told last night’s Tea Party group that it’s actually pretty hard to find a true moderate Muslim.  They do exist, he said, but they’re frequently ostracized and even threatened.  He noted that prison is the perfect breeding ground for recruiting converts to Islam.  When an audience member asked just what Americans were supposed to do about this incursion, given the Constitutional difficulties, Mauro said that a main problem is with federal policies within the U.S. government.

Allowing Middle Eastern governments to set up schools right here in the United States is a main problem.  The flow of money to the Middle East through the importation of petroleum and oil only fuels the Muslim Brotherhood’s ultimate, long-term goal of overthrowing our government.

He showed a video in which an Islamicist admitted, “No, we won’t overthrow you right away.  But maybe in a hundred years, we will.”

Mauro noted that one of the difficulties is the alliances Christian churches are forming with Islamic mosques.  The Muslims come to become members of the boards of churches and charitable organizations, and then fund terrorist and indoctrination operations with the money.

One Londoner stood up to the bloodied terrorist.  The rest gawked or looked the other way as Adebolajo and his cohort first ran over Drummer Rigby with a car and then beheaded him.  London’s answer to this crime is to urge military personnel not to wear their uniforms in public.

London banned private gun ownership years ago.  Not even the cops normally carry guns, although some law enforcement official managed to shoot the pair.  An indifferent citizenry stood by as Rigby was murdered in the street.  No one did anything because they’ve been told not to.  Here in America, we’re about to be told to march to the same drummer.

On parade, there are certain rules about spacing between units and not stopping, even if a member of your unit becomes sick or collapses in the street.  Stopping your unit in the middle of a parade can get your unit disqualified.  Just keep moving.

That’s what our Drum Major Domo Obama wants us to do in regard to terrorism; just keep moving.  Never mind about the dead bodies.  Keep on building those mosques and step over the bodies of victims like Drummer Rigby and the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The parade towards “social justice” and the worldwide caliphate must keep moving; otherwise, the Muslims might get angry…

Obama in the Path of the IRS Tornado

As Lois Lerner, Director of the Tax-Exempt Division of the IRS, was not testifying before Congress today, police departments and security from the Department of Homeland Security were protecting IRS offices around the country yesterday from the Tea Party menace.  Lerner may not have had much to say about the scandal, which she acknowledged while claiming she’d broken no laws, but the Tea Parties who had gathered to protest the scandal, did.

According to Fox News, Lerner refused to answer questions today at a House hearing on the program, as a Democratic lawmaker warned there would be “hell to pay” if the agency stonewalls Congress on its investigation.

Nevertheless, Lois Lerner invoked the Fifth Amendment, declaring she would not testify or answer questions on the advice of counsel, citing her Constitutional right.

“I will not answer any questions or testify about the subject matter of this committee’s meeting,” she said.  “I have not done anything wrong,” she said emphatically. “I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations, and I have not provided false information to this or any other Congressional committee.”

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said that given her other remarks, she may have “effectively waived” her rights.

After further deliberation, she was ultimately dismissed.

This is Congress’ third hearing on the IRS controversy.  Mass. Rep. Stephen Lynch (D) warned that if IRS officials don’t start cooperating more, “it will lead to a special prosecutor” being appointed.

Fox News further reported, “Lerner has emerged as a key figure in the scandal. She was the first to acknowledge the practice two weeks ago, and was aware of the program for years as head of the division. Though two officials have so far left the IRS in the wake of the controversy, she has not.

“Lerner’s attorney William Taylor III made clear in advance of the hearing she would not answer questions. He also asked Issa in a letter if she could skip Wednesday’s hearing since she would be pleading the Fifth.”

Lerner has the Constitutional right to remain silent.  But if she’s done nothing wrong, she wouldn’t incriminate herself by speaking.  No one is about to incriminate themselves over targeting the Tea Parties.  Miller and now Lerner maintain that they’ve broken no rules, regulations or laws by targeting specific political groups, i.e., the Conservative Tea Parties.

One Tea Party organizer was asked who her political “mentor” was?  No one asked Obama who is political “mentor” was.  We just had to figure that out for ourselves.  The answer was in his own biography; Frank Marshall Davis, a card-carrying member of the Communist Party of America.

I confess!  Please!  I’ll tell you everything!  My political mentor was my father, who told stories of the teacher union riots at City University of New York.  The story that turned me towards Conservativism was “The Man Without a Country,” by Edward Everett Hale.  The politician who first influenced me was Ronald Reagan.  No, not Ronald Reagan the President; Ronald Reagan, the Governor of California.  I vaguely remember his speech at the Republican National Convention in 1964 and later speeches as California governor.  He had strength.

My parents warned me early on about the dangers of Communism.  I saw it from kindergarten on.  I had a Communist history professor, Socialist college professors, and Communist friends.  I learned everything I needed to know about Communism from them and everything I needed to know about America from my parents.

Unlike Lerner, the Tea Parties have no need to plead.  The evidence, in the form of long forms designed to harass and discourage Tea Party organizers, is there.  If the IRS doesn’t understand the problem, here it is:  your job is to collect revenue.  That’s it.  The Tea Parties certainly meet the definition of “social welfare.”  Our job has always been voter education.

The Tea Parties, originally organized to protest excessive taxation and the politically-motivated redistribution of those taxes, exist to inform the public that they have a choice.  They have a duty to “think critically.”  Critical thinking works both ways and the Liberals are angry that we’re aware of that fact and make the general public aware of that fact.

They don’t like the Tea Parties telling people that the government is too big.  Massive bureaucracies waste money massively.  In the center of the country, the Finger of God wiped out a good portion of Moore, Okla.  God didn’t send that tornado down to punish anyone.  But it’s possible He sat back to see who would get their first to help – the Government or the God Squads.

Municipal rescuers (government employees) obviously arrived first.  There is a question whether Moore’s fire department is union or volunteer.  The rescue squads are almost certainly volunteers.  After that, the God Squads took the lead.  In that part of the country, and particularly that city, tornadoes are nothing new.  Moore is experienced at tornado recovery.  This made their 5th tornado.  The last tornado, in 1999, set a world record for the fast wind speed on Earth – 318 m.p.h.

Finally, Obama sent out a message from Washington, 2,000 miles away, that the Government would be there to help.  To the IRS, he has sent a different message:  “Shut up and this will go away.”  Just like the Moore tornado.  And just like the tornado, there will be widespread damage to Washington and Obama’s administration unless he can keep it under control.

Life in Tornado Alley

A couple from our band is moving out to Iowa tomorrow.  The wife was working in New York City.  She was promoted to a job out in Iowa, with the appeal of more money and a lower-cost of living.  The husband is a volunteer firefighter and his services will certainly be welcomed.  Because the downside to this relocation is that they’re moving to Tornado Alley.

The first thing we suggested to his mother is to make sure they rent – not buy – a house with a storm cellar.  This was before we knew anything about the upcoming spate of tornadoes.  Not a house with wooden doors, either.  The EF5 that hit Moore, Okla., just ripped the wooden storm doors right of their hinges.

Apparently, the Three Little Pigs were wrong, too; the Moore tornado turned a neighborhood of brick homes to dust.  What did survive was the safe at a local bank.  The bank, evidently, was flattened, but the safe itself stood up to the tornado and told it to suck wind.  When we were talking about a house with a storm cellar, I remembered the scene from the film Twister, where the heroine hid with her family in the storm cellar while an EF5 roared overhead.  The father could hold the doors shut and he and the doors were scooped up into the tornado.

It’s time for the residents and engineers to start re-thinking how they live out in Tornado Alley.  Can’t blame this one on “Climate Change”; tornados have been happening there forever.  There just weren’t many people living there.  Now, in addition to Oklahoma City itself, you have the suburb of Moore.  Moore is no small town; it has a population of 55,000-plus.  When you plant a city of 41,000 in the middle of Tornado Alley, someone is going to get hurt.

The houses on the plains don’t have basements.  Some of the older homes have storm cellars, but not too many.  Since everything is flatted now, before the residents of Moore begin rebuilding their homes, they need to build 21st Century storm shelters.  The kind made of the same stuff as the bank vaults.  They might want to think about sliding doors rather than hinged doors that can be stripped away, with reinforced tracks that can’t be crushed.

They might also want to consider the straight design of the cellar.  Build the waiting area away from the direct line of the door so that if it is somehow torn away, the occupants are blown away with it.

Tornado Alley residents seem to realize they need shovels and flashlights to dig themselves out.  They also need some sort of emergency signal, the kind the New York City Fire Department finally received years after 9/11 so rescue workers can find them if they’re trapped.

As for schools, they need to rethink their safety plans.  Obviously, in EF5 tornado, the center of the building is not the safest place to wait out the twister.  The Plaza Tower School’s concrete walls tumbled in on the children, killing a number of them.  Building underground shelters might cost the taxpayers a little more money but it beats the cost of a funeral for your kid.  If they decide to spend the extra money, don’t put the kids all in one place.  Put the shelters on the NEWS (North, East, West and South) side of the building.

Where are all the safety freaks who insist the kids wear bicycle helmets?  You put the helmets on the kids when they’re riding, creating a moral hazard (the kids think they’re safer, so they ride more dangerously).  Why not make them carry the helmets with them to school during the Tornado season (generally April through June)?  Take the helmets along when you’re driving somewhere, and keep them hanging on the route to the storm cellar.  And do as you say adults; carry and wear the darned things yourself.  Or do you need a hail ball the size of a grapefruit to hit you in the head?

This tragedy also makes one think about Smart Growth and its notions of high-density building.  They would say that this suburb was low-density, 21.7 square miles with a population density of 2,477.6 people per square mile.  Those houses were pretty close together.  When a catastrophe occurs in a region with a dense population (and a history of significant tornadoes [five] – October 4, 1998, May 3, 1999, May 8, 2003, May 10, 2010, and May 20, 2013), you’re going to have a high number of dead and injured people.

Moore was founded during the land-run of 1889. The early settlers came on train, horseback, wagons, and some, on foot.  According to local historians, the town’s original name was Verbeck as designated by the railroad company.  However, a railroad employee named Al Moore, reported to be either a conductor or a brakeman, lived in a boxcar at the camp and had difficulty receiving his mail.  He painted his name—“Moore”—on a board and nailed it on the boxcar.  When a postmaster was appointed, he continued to call the settlement Moore.  When the town incorporated in 1893, it used the name Moore to honor Al Moore.

Maybe they need to change the sign.

The medical examiner has just lowered the death toll from 90 to 41.  That’s still a high number for a tornado.  Even with advanced technology, better warning times, and an educated public, when an EF5 arrives, nothing beats getting underground if you don’t want to be buried underground permanently.

Our sympathies to those who have lost loved ones, their homes and possessions, and maybe their faith.  God isn’t trying to punish you; but if one could read His mind, one would guess that He’s thinking:  ‘If you must live in Tornado Alley, build a storm shelter!’

Good luck, K and H!

The IRS and the Illegal Immigrants

There’s a link between the scandal-ridden IRS and illegal immigrants.  Who knew?  Well here’s one more bit of ammunition in the war against Obama and the IRS:

There is a law on the IRS books that illegal aliens can be taxed.  The IRS boys decided they were earning money (mostly illegal Mexicans), let’s tax them.  However, they have no SSAN (Social Security Account Number).  So they assigned them an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identity Number).  Now, illegal aliens can pay taxes.

But wait; the illegal aliens that get ITIN numbers don’t make much money.  But it turns out they figured out they can get thousands (often more than $10,000) on their returns by claiming “dependents” through the Additional Child Tax Credit.  Most of these dependents have never been to the US.  Claim a dozen or so sons/daughters/nieces/nephews as dependents and Jose gets a sizable check from the U.S.  Some $4.2 Billion (with a B) drained from the IRS.

We have a friend living outside the U.S. with dependent children.  He can’t claim EIC (Earned Income Credit) for them, but the illegal aliens can claim all their “dependents” living in Mexico, etc.

Why haven’t they closed this loophole?  Who’s benefiting from this (besides the illegal aliens)?

In March, a WTHR-TV Indianapolis investigative report exposed a fraudulent scheme concocted by the IRS to sending $4.2 billion per year to illegal immigrants as an “additional child tax credit” for children who don’t even live in the U.S.

Further, the IRS and Congress have been ignoring the scheme for years.  The Inspector General’s office has repeatedly identified the problem in audit after audit.  The Inspector General for the IRS, Russell George says, “The magnitude of the problem has grown exponentially,” but the IRS is doing nothing to stop it.

“It’s so easy, it’s ridiculous,” the tax preparer whistleblower who exposed the fraud admits.  Names are simply listed on the IRS form.  “The more you put on there, the more you get back.”  No questions asked…the check’s in the mail.

Meanwhile, the IRS asked the Tea Party groups plenty of questions – 55 pages of questions about who their donors were.  What books they read.  Whether they were truly social welfare organizations.

The question is, is the Internal Revenue Service a social welfare organization?

The IRS Skill Set

Steven T. Miller was the right man for the right job to target Tea Party organizations – and Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew had to know it.  If Lew knew it, then Obama knew it.

Steven T. Miller resigned yesterday (although he only had two weeks to go in his term) as Acting Commissioner of Internal Revenue and Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement.  As Acting Commissioner, he presided over the nation’s tax system, which collects approximately $2.4 trillion in tax revenue that funds most government operations and public service. The IRS is comprised of about 90,000 employees, some of whom will be assigned to Health Care Collection duty.  The IRS has a budget of more than $12 billion.

When recruiting someone for a job, it’s important that they have the right skill set.  I went for a job interview yesterday with a big corporation, thinking they wanted someone with good communications skills when what they wanted was someone with design skills.  While I’m pretty good with PhotoShop, I know SharePoint, and I’ve been studying InDesign via a DVD tutorial, frankly I have no actual experience designing.  I’m a writer and a photographer.  This company wanted a designer and it’s not likely that I’ll get the job (I alerted a former colleague who is a designer about the position).

What did Jack Lew and Obama want out of their Acting Commissioner of Internal Revenue and Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement when they appointed him in November of last year?  And why didn’t they appoint him permanently?  Why was the job I interviewed for only a temporary position?

Let’s take a look at Miller’s IRS bio and find out what made him such a perfect fit for the position.  They begin with his current duties.

“As Acting Commissioner, Miller will continue to emphasize the necessity of maintaining a balance between taxpayer service and tax enforcement. His goals for the IRS are improving service to make voluntary compliance easier for taxpayers while at the same time enforcing the law to make sure everyone meets their obligation to pay the taxes they owe.

“As Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, Miller provides direction and oversight for all major decisions affecting the four taxpayer-focused IRS Divisions: Wage and Investment, Large Business and International, Small Business/Self-Employed, and Tax Exempt and Government Entities. He also provides the executive direction and leadership for the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, which investigates income tax evasion and related financial crimes; the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, which administers the laws and regulations governing the practice of tax professionals before the IRS; and the IRS Whistleblower Office, which receives information on tax cheating and provides appropriate rewards to whistleblowers.

“Provides appropriate ‘rewards’ to whistleblower.’  There’s an interesting job description for you.

“Prior to his appointment as the Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, Steve served as the Commissioner of the Large Business and International Division.  In this position, he had oversight for federal tax administration for domestic and foreign corporations and partnerships with assets of $10 million or more that have a United States tax filing requirement.  Previously, as the Commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, Steve oversaw the administration of tax law relating to employee plans, tax-exempt organizations and various government entities.  Steve also served as the Director of Exempt Organizations and as the acting Assistant Commissioner and Special Assistant to the Assistant Commissioner, Employee Plans/Exempt Organizations.  Other prior service includes several years in Chief Counsel, serving as a Congressional staff member for the Joint Committee on Taxation and work in private practice.

Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University, and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from Georgetown University Law School.

The very first IRS Commissioner lasted about as long as Miller did:  George S. Boutwell.  He took office on July 17, 1862 and left office March 4, 1863.  His successor had a little better luck with the job, after two weeks, he was officially appointed Commissioner for two years.  The next guy in line was another temporary, William Orton, July 1, 1865 to Oct. 31, 1865.

The Act of 1862 established the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The Commissioner was given the power to assess, levy, and collect taxes, and the right to enforce the tax laws through seizure of property and income and through prosecution. The powers and authority remain very much the same today.

Tea Parties, Patriot organizations, 9/12 Glenn Beck Projects and pro-Israel organizations didn’t exist at that time.  But other charities did.  Notice Miller’s specialty:  “Previously, as the Commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, Steve oversaw the administration of tax law relating to employee plans, tax-exempt organizations and various government entities.  Steve also served as the Director of Exempt Organizations and as the acting Assistant Commissioner and Special Assistant to the Assistant Commissioner, Employee Plans/Exempt Organizations.”

There’s the man for you.  The revenue collector for tax-exempt organizations.  As far as the IRS is considered, there’s really no such thing as an organization that is exempt from taxes.  Tax-exempt organizations have an income threshold, usually about $10,000, which they’re allowed to use without having to pay taxes on the money.  But, the organization has to account for every penny it spends, and there are numerous things the money cannot be spent on.  Some are obvious, like Tea Party vacations.

The Bloomingdale Cornet Band, the band I play with, incorporated, and our secretary/treasurer had to make an annual report.  The form certainly was long, as I recall, but it wasn’t 55 pages and it didn’t ask what music we played or what our members’ political affiliations were.

Miller claims he was just being “thorough.”  After all, it wasn’t his fault if Tea Party/Patriot/9-12 projects and pro-Israel groups outnumbered other charities.  We are quite numerous, which worried Obama.  He had to find a way to thwart our growing numbers.  The Media helped but discovered that the Tea Parties didn’t need the Media’s help to get their message across.

That must have been when Lew suggested Miller to Obama as his successor.  The election was over; it was Nov. 12.  Obama was officially a lame duck president and he couldn’t be hurt politically by such an appointment.  Miller had his orders and carried them out.  However, the Tea Parties were being targeted by the IRS long before Miller’s appointment.  Thus, logic would indicate that the word was about to go public and Obama needed a straw man to take the fall for him.  Who better than a revenue collector whose specialty was strong-arming non-profit groups.

Obama could then claim “outrage” and disgust at such unprofessional behavior on the part of the IRS.  What the heck; they already have a bad name amongst Americans.  Keep in mind, the IRS didn’t invent the income tax.  In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system. The amendment gave Congress legal authority to tax income and resulted in a revenue law that taxed incomes of both individuals and corporations. In fiscal year 1918, annual internal revenue collections for the first time passed the billion-dollar mark, rising to $5.4 billion by 1920. With the advent of World War II, employment increased, as did tax collections—to $7.3 billion. The withholding tax on wages was introduced in 1943 and was instrumental in increasing the number of taxpayers to 60 million and tax collections to $43 billion by 1945.  The 16th Amendment was the creature of Pres. Woodrow Wilson.  Wilson’s bio in the World Almanac 2013 makes no note of that particular fact; Obama’s bio takes up three-quarters of the page.

Members of the Tea Parties and other groups have a certain skill set, too.  Far from being street theater activists, they nevertheless have the ability to organize, with relatively little money.  They’re experienced in organizing countless events from weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, to office parties, departmental meetings and even huge convention center conferences.

They’re well-educated, particularly their older members.  They pay property taxes, so it’s personal for them.  Those who work are privately employed; their employers pay taxes as well.  They know their way around the Internet; that’s how they organized, initially.  Once they made contact, then they met.

Finally, most of them have children.  Unlike the feminists who abort their inconvenient children, Tea Partiers have a stake in the future.  They’re willing to put in on the line for their grandkids.  Their kids aren’t so sure because of the self-esteem/peer pressure indoctrination they faced.  Unlike their World War II generation parents or grandparents, they don’t know what it’s like to fight for freedom.  They would say Civil Rights was a righteous cause, which it was.  But in fighting that battle, we signed away a good deal of our freedom.

The government can’t be caught shedding blood; not yet, anyway.  The best tactic is to hit the enemy in the pocketbook first.  Fining an adversary, and the more drastic method of even imprisoning them, plays better on the nightly news.  The only evidence is a bunch of older suburbanites carrying signs accusing the government of doing just what they’re doing.  Well, why do you think we were carrying signs, right in front of whatever cameras showed up at our rallies?  Was a television news crew likely to come to someone’s house and watch as they wrote a check out, as a representative of their group, to the IRS?

The grilling of Miller is gratifying.  But it’s still theater and Obama is still running the show.

There Is No There There – Literal Legerdemain

Originally dealing with the failed land deal years earlier known as Whitewater, Kenneth Starr, with the approval of U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, conducted a wide-ranging investigation of alleged abuses including the firing of White House travel agents, the alleged misuse of FBI files, and Bill Clinton’s conduct during the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former Arkansas government employee, Paula Jones.

In the course of the investigation, Linda Tripp provided Starr with taped phone conversations in which Monica Lewinsky, a former White House Intern, discussed having oral sex with Clinton.  At the deposition, the judge ordered a precise legal definition of the term “sexual relations” that Clinton claims to have construed to mean only vaginal intercourse. A much-quoted statement from Clinton’s grand jury testimony showed him questioning the precise use of the word “is.” Contending that his statement that “there’s nothing going on between us” had been truthful because he had no ongoing relationship with Lewinsky at the time he was questioned.  Clinton said, “It depends upon what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.  If the—if he—if ‘is’ means ‘is and never has been,’ that is not—that is one thing.  If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement.”

Starr obtained further evidence of inappropriate behavior by seizing the computer hard drive and email records of Monica Lewinsky. Based on his conflicting testimony, Starr concluded that Clinton had committed perjury. Starr submitted his findings to Congress in a lengthy document (the Starr Report), and simultaneously posted the report on the internet, replete with lurid descriptions of encounters between Clinton and Lewinsky.  Starr was criticized by Democrats for spending $70 million on an investigation that substantiated only perjury and obstruction of justice.  Critics of Starr also contend that his investigation was highly politicized because it regularly leaked tidbits of information to the press, in violation of legal ethics, and because his report included lengthy descriptions which were humiliating yet irrelevant to the legal case.

At a press conference regarded the redaction of talking points about Benghazi in September 2012, Obama charged that the current storyline is politically motivated. “The whole issue of talking points, frankly throughout this process, has been a sideshow,” said the president. “Suddenly three days ago this gets spun up as if there’s something new to the story. There’s no ‘there’ there,” said the president.

Whatever clever legal legerdemain Bill Clinton was trying to use, Obama is less original in his address.  “There is no there there,” is a quote from modernist author, art collector and lesbian, Gertrude Stein.  She was talking about her childhood home in Oakland, Calif.  She was often given to uttering such non-sequiturs on the premise that she was simply so intelligent that her interlocutors simply didn’t possess equal intelligence to understand her.

Clinton was ultimately impeached for lying, when evidence was produced from Monica Lewinsky’s computer.  Democrat critics criticized Starr for spending so much of the taxpayers’ money on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice (the very charges brought against Pres. Richard Nixon).

Now we have Benghazi.  We have witnesses testifying that a stand-down order was given, preventing anyone in the military from rescuing Ambassador Stevens.  Liberals claim that the Pentagon says it never issued such an order.  But the order wouldn’t have come from the Pentagon but from the Commander-in-Chief, thereby alleviating the Pentagon from charges that they “issued” the order.

Obama can’t understand all the fuss over Benghazi.  Suddenly – three days ago – Benghazi gets spun up as if new information had appeared.  New information was revealed in the House investigation by way of witnesses.  Other witnesses have told news sources that their jobs and livelihoods will be imperiled if they speak.

Stein’s “There is no there there” is a mantra for the modernist and post-modernist school of philosophy.  In her book, “The Feel-Good Curriculum:  The Dumbing Down of America’s Kids in the Name of Self-Esteem,” Dr. Maureen Stout, a professor of Education at the University of British Columbia, wrote in 1993, “Cynicism is the principal characteristic of the post-modern condition because ideals are seen as nothing more than the myths we use to deceive ourselves about the possibility of progress.  The true post-modernist insists that there is nothing to believe in and no point in believing… He is, by definition, a cynic and, having made his ideological bed, he must now lie in it.

“But we do we really want to accept the post-modernist’s very gloomy picture of the human condition; accept, as Gertrude Stein once said, ‘there’s no there there?’  It does make one wonder why, for example, the nation got so caught up in the space program in the 1960’s…”

It’s the Wizard of Oz telling Dorothy there’s nothing to see here; go away.  Move on.  Don’t believe the witnesses.  Don’t believe the facts the Republicans have uncovered; the Republicans are partisan – this is just a politically-motivated witch hunt.  There’s nothing to it.  Nothing more to see than on the day it happened.

There’s nothing to redacting talking points – twelve times (you should have seen what one V.P. did to the speech my boss wrote for her).  That’s what people like Obama do.  When he went to bed, he thought all the fuss was about demonstration in Cairo.  Stevens was scared so we put him in the safehouse.  How was Obama supposed to know Stevens wouldn’t be safe there?

The police chief of Benghazi told State that it was about the video.  Of course, your average protestor is more like to carry sticks and stones, and burn flags rather than rocket launchers that burn down a building.  It wasn’t even an official building, but a private house next door to the consulate (can’t you guys even get the building right?  It was a consulate.  We only have one embassy in any country, usually in the capital city.  Other government buildings are called “consulates”).  And this was an annex to that consulate.  And it isn’t “there” anymore.  Get it?

So what’s the big deal?  Obama got it wrong.  Or one of his minions did.  He doesn’t remember any serious cries for help from Benghazi.  This stuff about arms to Syria?  Completely off the wall, the stuff of conspiracy theories.

Obama thinks he can say and do anything and that Benghazi will just evaporate like the stories about his relationship with Bill Ayers, the national debt crisis, and Porkulus.  His minions have even invented a new scandal about eavesdropping on the Associated Press to distract us from Benghazi.  What could the AP possibly have to say that would be dangerous to this administration?  They’re his head cheerleaders, for gosh sakes.  George McGovern had more to hide in Watergate, allegedly accepting campaign funds from foreign donors, than the AP has to hide from Obama.

Such a charge lends credibility to the Associated Press and the rest of the Obaminions.  It protects them from charges of collusion and excuses them from having to investigate Benghazi.  ‘We would never do anything to hurt you, Mr. President!  We won’t say another word about Benghazi!’

No, there’s nothing “new” to the Benghazi story that wasn’t true back in September.  The only thing “new” about is that it has made the news, thanks to the perseverance of Glenn Beck, the Conservative Republicans, the brave witnesses, and some damning video, about which there is nothing cartoonish.

There is a “there” there and the definition of “is” is that it is not over.  There is also a “truth” there or whistleblowing witnesses wouldn’t be under threat and ordered to keep silent.  What the government is doing is called “dissembling,” which means to hide under or put on a false appearance; to conceal facts, intentions or feelings under some pretense.  They’re being clever in the way they keep changing their language.  An embassy becomes a consulate becomes an annex becomes a diplomatic facility.  Soon, no one knows what’s going on anymore.  There is no longer there.

When the government dissembles, it’s time for the people to assemble.

Republican Fever

According to Atlantic Wire.com (whose motto is “What Matters Now”), President Obama told high-profile “donors like Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, and Tommy Hilfiger that Washington gridlock is pretty much Rush Limbaugh’s fault Monday evening at a fundraiser at Harvey Weinstein’s house in New York’s Greenwich Village.

Obama admitted that his theory — that after the 2012 election, the Republican ‘fever’ would break, and they’d decide to co-sign some of his agenda — was wrong.

“My thinking was when we beat them in 2012 that might break the fever, and it’s not quite broken yet,” Obama said, according to the White House pool report.  The lingering symptoms of the fever are due to a certain “corpulent” radio host.

“I genuinely believe there are Republicans out there who would like to work with us but they’re fearful of their base and they’re concerned about what Rush Limbaugh might say about them. And as a consequence we get the kind of gridlock that makes people cynical about government.”

Again, that’s skeptical, not cynical.  Skepticism is the antidote to “Progressive Fever”.

“In June 2012, Obama had predicted that being a lame duck would actually be a perk. He told donors:

“I believe that if we’re successful in this election, when we’re successful in this election, that the fever may break, because there’s a tradition in the Republican Party of more common sense than that,…

“My hope, my expectation, is that after the election, now that it turns out that the goal of beating Obama doesn’t make much sense because I’m not running again, that we can start getting some cooperation again.”

And if Republicans refuse to cooperate? Atlantic Wire asked.  “Well, unlike the president, they (the Republicans) do face reelection. Obama suggested he would crush them in the midterms.

“If there are folks who are more interested in winning elections than they are thinking about the next generation then I want to make sure there are consequences to that.”

Obama was so interested in winning the election to the Illinois state senate that he used unorthodox, indeed, ruthless means, to eliminate his opponents, including revealing confidential documents regarding one candidate’s divorce.

Atlantic Wire reports that Obama left Weinstein’s home for another DNC fundraiser at the home of Alexandra Stanton in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood, before a DCCC/DSCC event at the Waldorf Astoria, capping a busy day in which he addressed the dueling IRS and Benghazi scandals and maybe even cried.

The symptoms of “Republican Fever” include delusions, such as believing that Hispanics and feminists will vote for them; hallucinations, as in shaking hands with opponents across the aisle; self-destructive behavior, including signing dangerous legislation authored by Democrats and appearing on Democrat-slanted news shows; tremors, when they listen to skewed polls favoring the Democrats; denial; paranoia, i.e., they’re losing because of their Conservative base and discrediting radio and television pundits who are trying to help them get back on the right track.

Brain damage can occur.  Conservative therapists suggest such activities as reading the U.S. Constitution; re-reading John Locke, Alexander de Tocqueville, and Adam Smith; and watching movies like Braveheart, The Longest Day, and High Noon.  The first two are true stories.  Another therapy is to read the stories on the Medal of Honor website.  They must be encouraged to overcome their fear of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.  Meeting these two men in person would probably reassure them that their phobia is unjustified, the product of Democrat propaganda with no basis in reality.

Rush and Glenn have learned what they know from the Founding Fathers’ reading list.  They serve as broadcasting ombudsman.  Rush may seem singular, but he has a well-trained staff investigating the stories of the day for him, which he then analyzes and reports upon.  Glenn Beck’s broadcasting network is expanding.  His channel is to be broadcast on Optimum Cablevision in the New York City area by the end of the month, the very market area from which he was once evicted.  Rush’s broadcasting numbers are outstanding.  He’s so successful, he’s considering leaving the New York City market area because he doesn’t need it.

Conservatism is the antidote to “Republican Fever.”  The Republicans, in feverish denial, are resisting the cure.  Democrats are in a panic that Conservative researchers are on the threshold of a breakthrough in curing the brainwashing.

No wonder the Media reported that Obama was crying at some recent event.
