According to a Fox News Reports, the schoolchildren of Top of the World, Tenn., will not be able to take the bus to school. That’s because the main road, Foothills Parkway, runs through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This national park takes up nearly a third of Tennessee’s Blount County.
After the federal officials shut down the parkway, the school bus operator was forced to shut down its runs. The other routes to the school travel more or less straight up the mountains and are impassable for buses. If parents want to get their children to school, they must drive the white-knuckle roads themselves.
Meanwhile, Glenn Beck on Tuesday revealed the name of a Republican senator who allegedly insinuated that supporters of FreedomWorks and the Senate Conservatives Fund are traitors to the party: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Beck said he was given the information by someone who is not on his “usual list of friends” and who, if he gave you the name, you would probably not think “he’s on our side.”
“The alleged comments were made in a private, off-the-record meeting of Republican senators that reportedly went far beyond politics as usual, and coincide with reports of fierce infighting within the GOP. The New York Times, for instance, recently published a piece comparing Republican Senators Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, Dan Coats, and Mitch McConnell to a “lynch mob” in their questioning of Texas Senator Ted Cruz at a private luncheon.”
“’This guy is just disgusted by what happened, and is one of those guys who was sitting in this meeting, not saying anything, but watching everybody and — show me your friends and I’ll show you your future,’” Beck remarked. ‘[Thinking], ‘I think my friends are not friends of the republic. Not friends of freedom of speech.’”
“Here is what happened [at the meeting],” Beck continued. “As they are all standing in there, they are told in not so many words, that they are on the wrong side. That these people have been here for a very long time, and you new senators come in and you think you know it all. And if anyone is working with the Senate Conservatives Fund or FreedomWorks, you’re a traitor.”
Beck’s co-host Pat Gray asked if “traitor” was the actual word used.
“The actual word used was not ‘traitor,’” Beck said clearly. “They couldn’t remember the actual word, they said, but that’s what everybody heard, and that’s what set this guy off. Because he was like, ‘Yeah, you put ‘em in their place.’ And then when he heard the word, and he doesn’t remember what it was, but he translated it as ‘traitor,’ and he was like, ‘Whoa, that’s a little strong.’”
Meanwhile, Beck also reports that while The National Mall in Washington, D.C. is closed to visitors to the World War II Memorial, a pro-illegal immigrant group was granted permission to stage a big rally on the mall, complete with an outdoor soundstage.
Beck also quoted an anonymous National Park Service official as being ordered by superiors, “Let’s make it [the shutdown] as painful as possible so we can teach them a lesson and never go back.”
“Never go back?” Never go back to what? Limited government? A Federal budget? The U.S. Constitution? Responsible, mature citizens? Accountable legislators? Legal immigration? Working for a living? Paying your own bills? Owning your own home? Living in freedom, liberty, and prosperity? (Incidentally, I made a mathematical error in calculating the combined entitlements of Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security: the total is $1.6 trillion, not 16 billion.)
Obama is driving us down a dangerous, white-knuckle road with no room for negotiation. He has the wheel firmly in his grip and the gas pedal is all the way down to the floor. He’s cut the brakes and his bodyguards are preventing anyone from getting to the front of the bus to tear him away from the wheel before we go over the cliff.
China, whom we owe some $5 trillion in debt, has tried ringing the red White House emergency phone. But no one is picking it up. They’re getting a recorded message. “This is Emperor Obama speaking. Sorry I can’t come to the phone right now. I do not negotiate.”
Moderate Republicans are upset that the shutdown will be blamed on the Republicans. But it’s Obama who has ordered the shutdown of the parks, and the Senate that is repaying all the furloughed government employees.
America is on a treacherous, downhill road to nowhere, a point of no return. There are no turnabouts on this road to oblivion. We’re on a way to a destination to which no free country should want to go.
